緑の人

Today I had third lang.

I asked mumu if we could eat at Subway and she said yes and JJ wanted to come along too so that she wouldn't sleep at home.
And she said yes so we did that. And we went to MOELC together in a cab.
And then because today was the first day of lessons for the Sec 1s, there was the annoying security guard at the gate. Again. And mu and J walked me to the gate then they were like BYEBYE! And I was BYEBYE (duh.) Then I went over to the guard and he wanted to check my lanyard, the card thinggy thing. And obviously he can't read cos my NRIC was like S9437354I. Then he looked back at me and was like, " First day of school ah? "
I was like WTH?! I so smalkl meh? ANd obviously he look at people never look properly. Never see my badge got the word 'prefect' there. Where got people 2 weeks of school become prefect de lei?

So anyways, I shall not complain anymore.

Then I want to class. And this sensei, Kimiko Endo sensei, she likes to call me 緑の人 and that means 'the green person'. Then last week I was like thinking...Ok, it's my uniform that's how she recognizes me, cos I'm the only green uniform around.. But then! She keep on calling me 緑の人...緑の人... then Dacy, my classmate, said," Eh I think I know why she always call you 緑の人 already. See, cos your pencil case so green, water bottle also green that's why like 緑の人 like that lo... " HAHA I actually kind of think that makes sense!

HAHA ok. 緑の人 is going to do more productive things liao..
BYE!

No Perfect Happiness

Today I read an article in Mind Your Body (ST 1/1/09)

I found it so nice, so I'm going to tell about it here.

No perfect happiness

St. Thomas Aquinas, a Dominican monk, was strongly influenced by Aristotle's account of happiness.. Like Aristotle, he believed that happiness is man's ultimate goal, the one thing we seek entirely for its own sake.
Also, like Aristotle, he believed that happiness is about more than just feeling good. It is about living a good and meaningful life. In fact, the word Aquinas used for happiness is beatitudo, a Latin word that literally means 'blessedness'.
We all seek happiness. However, Aquinas warned us that we need to be clear about what this involves for we may otherwise seek in vain. Every day, we are presented with conflicting goods from which we must choose. However, which leads to happiness and which leads to frustration and disappointment?
Some people pursue what Aquinas termed "external goods" like wealth, power or fame. Others focus on "goods of the body" such as health or physical attractiveness. Still others seek "goods of the soul" like pleasure, knowledge or friendship. He examined all of these candidates for happiness - and rejected them all.
Take wealth, for instance. Aquinas pointed out that there are two kinds of wealth: natural and artificial. By natural wealth, he meant those goods that meet our natural needs: food drink, clothing, shelter and sucj. By artificial wealth, he meant mone, which allows us to buy these things.
Now, happiness cannot consist in natual wealth because happiness is an ultimate goal, whereas natural wealth is always sought for the sake of something else, namely the comfort and sustenance of the body. Then again, happiness cannot consist in artificial wealth too, since this is sought only for natural wealth.
In addition, those who hunger after riches are never satisfied. They quickly come to despise what they possess and yearn instead for other things. So happiness cannot consist in wealth.
For another example, take fame or glory. Glory is nothing buy publick praise. However, praise can be unmerited and a good man will blush rather than rejoice when he received undeserved praise.
Furthermore, fame and glory are notoriously unstable. Even when deserved, they can "easily be lost by false rumour". True happiness cannot be dependent on imperfect human knowledge or fickle human prase. Therefor, happiness cannot consist in fame or glory.
Aquinas similarly demolished all the other common candidates for happiness: honour, power, health, good looks, longevity. knowledge, friendship and so on. Not that there is anything actually wrong. They are all good in their own way, however, none of them can be equated with true happiness.
The problem is desire. We humans can never be truly happy until all our appetites are fufilled. So long as there is something left for us to desire, we will never be completely satisfied.
No created goods can satisfy our desire since all created goods are necessarily imperfect. Therefore, perfect happiness  is unattainable in this life. Once this is understood, we can stop saddling ourseles with unrealistic expectations.
